The 6th Street bridge in Los Angeles is an entertainment icon. You may not realize it, but you’ve seen it a million times in film and TV. On this particular day we were planning to shot on it and under it just as we’ve done so many times before.

It was about 7:30am when we met at the warehouse in downtown LA. Jasper, the rep from MOMO met us to make sure everything was going well. The objective, to shoot promo photos for the then top secret limited edition Magnus Walker MOMO steering wheel.

The shoot had to be done quickly as Magnus’ famous 277 Porsche was to be transported to Minneapolis for an auto show. After a few warm up shots in the parking area at Urban Outlaw headquarters, we head underneath the 6th Street bridge just a few blocks away.

These shoots always happen quickly. This is where it pays to be on your toes and to know your gear. I shot the whole thing on my Canon 60D with 2 lenses, a 40mm STM 2.8 and an EF-S 10-18mm super wide, which is tack sharp on my crop sensor camera body. There was no one available to handle a reflector and nowhere to plug in strobes. All I used for light was the early morning sun and a Yongnuo YN560 III speedlight. I knew the sun wasn’t going to give me much inside the car, especially while moving across the 6th Street bridge. I had to trust in my speedlight. The Yongnuo YN560 III packs a punch. I think I had it set at 1/16th power.

After a few shots under the bridge and a couple trips back and forth across the bridge to shoot the steering wheel in action, the shoot was over just as quick as it began. I was back home in Hollywood by 9:30am and onto another task.
